Doctors and sleep deprivation

November 10, 2011Hope you are all doing well. I have been very busy with lots of patients to see, doing call and preparing CME for my colleagues. Oh yeah, and my own life too.
I am currently en route to Bella Coola, I am doing a clinic there for two days. Areas like this that are more isolated do not have the same access to specialists we have in the city. The GPs do a good job but really appreciate a bit of backup.
I did a similar clinic in Bella Bella last week and it was a great experience. The doctors and staff there were very welcoming and it seems like a great place! I had lots of work to do though, there were a lot of patients to see. I expect the same in Bella Coola.
For me, it is a great privilege to go on these trips and see more remote areas of the province I would not see otherwise. Hopefully the consults I do will be useful to the patient and referring doctors. I would like to do my best to support them going forward.
Any of you have any experience living in a remote area? What was your healthcare like? Were you happy there?
